One way car rentals, Canada and the United States, is typically one option offered by all traditional car rental companies and is only offered to centers or locations where the company has an office and can reasonably expect to have customers that will want to rent the vehicle from your destination back to the starting point. This means that even if the company offers what they advertise as a one way rental, it may not be possible to every location, even if they do have an office there. Often the easiest option is to rent from an office in one location and drop at an airport, most companies will offer this as a package for one way car rentals. Canada, just like the United States, has the major national and international car rental companies at each international airport, which means that major centers are good options for drop spots. Some of the car rental companies also offer a free customer drop or car pick up, however check to make sure this applies to one way rentals or to car rental discounts. Not all of the car rental discounts offered will provide these additional services and taking this all into consideration is important when budgeting for your trip. If you are planning on traveling within Canada or taking the rental vehicle into the United States it is important to notify the rental company of where you are dropping the vehicle prior to renting. Some companies will charge a drop fee for a one way rental outside of Canada, while others may choose to waive the fee depending on the destination location. There may also be additional fees for taking the vehicle outside of the country. If you are booking online and are not able to find the information on the company's website, take the time to phone and speak to a representative to clear up any questions before providing your payment and making a reservation. If you are reserving a particular type of vehicle, such as a moving truck or van, be sure to book enough in advance to ensure that you can get the vehicle you need. Some companies may require a deposit to hold specialized vehicles while others may not. Finally be sure to understand the contract for the one way rental. Typically the vehicle will be required to be filled with gas or fuel before returning and you may be charged for extra cleaning of the vehicle if it is returned in a condition that is not the same as it was rented in. By reading the contract you can know in advance exactly how to return the vehicle and in what condition it has to be to avoid additional fees. |
